What to Remember for Your Next Waxing Session

Body hair is not usually a good sight, especially for most women. This is the main reason waxing salons and at-home waxing kits have been invented since women love to flaunt their hairless bodies, especially during summer at the beach.

Sure, razors and a good shaving cream can easily do the job as well, but the results wouldn’t be as good as when you go for waxing. In fact, the hair will eventually grow faster than when you opt for waxing.

Here, we will discuss a couple of things that you should remember before going to your favorite waxing salon in Salt Lake City.

Do a Patch Test

This one is especially important if you have never waxed before. Make sure to do a patch test on your skin before proceeding to the waxing session itself, as you can be allergic to some ingredients. Most waxes contain certain allergens, such as fragrances and artificial ingredients, which can irritate your skin. Ask your dermatologist about this first before going to the waxing salon.

Do a patch test and make sure to wait for at least 24 hours before proceeding with your appointment. If there are no allergic reactions, then you are good to go.

Communicate with Your Waxing

If you have allergies or skin sensitivities, then now is the time to tell them about it. You should also tell them about the topical ointments that you are currently putting on your skin, as well as medications you are taking. They will also most likely ask about your menstrual cycle, as this may affect your skin’s sensitivity.

Prep Your Skin

Waxing can be a bit harsh on the skin, which is why it is important to prep your skin. Exfoliate with a good scrub to eliminate all the dead skin cells. This will make the process easier, as your hair will break through the surface easier than usual.

You should also avoid shaving a few days before getting waxed, as you want your hair to be at least a quarter of an inch long for the wax to be a success. If your body hair is shorter than this, then the staff will most likely just ask you to come back.

Prepare for the Pain

No matter what part of the body, waxing will most certainly be going to be a bit painful. Besides, you are plucking a number of body hair all at once, which can be terrifying.

If you know that your pain tolerance is on the lower side of the scale, you can ask for a pain reliever or numbing cream before proceeding to the waxing session. Avoiding certain beverages such as caffeine and alcohol before the appointment will also help, as these drinks can spike your skin’s sensitivity.

Talk to the waxing salon staff first and ask them what you can do to prepare for the appointment. Listen to their aftercare tips, too, as you would never want to get any type of complication after the procedure.
