How to Protect Yourself from the Sun the Right Way

The sun’s heat certainly feels good, especially when you’re out at the beach enjoying the sea. But it’s not as gentle to your skin as you probably thought it would be. Although it’s not that apparent, your skin is at risk of developing wrinkles and age spots with constant exposure. Even more, it can also lead to skin cancer.

Over time, UV rays coming from the sun eventually harm your skin fibers excessively, causing it to break down. Once that happens, your skin will start to sag and lose its elasticity. It’ll also cause it to easily bruise and tear, which takes longer for your skin to recover.

Spending your day out exposed to the sun can also produce freckles and rough textures. Even more, it can also cause your skin to have white spots. But with all these effects that the sun has on a person’s body, are there ways to protect yourself from it?

Get some shade

Protecting yourself from the sun doesn’t mean that you don’t have to go out and enjoy your day. You can still do so, but with a bit of precaution. You can start by bringing an umbrella with you when you’re at the beach. It’s incredibly important, especially a few days after going to a trusted waxing salon. Your skin can be sensitive after getting yourself waxed. So, it’s best to get it protected as it gently recovers.

Wear the right clothing

Another way to get yourself protected is by wearing the right pieces of clothing to shield you from the sun’s rays. Wearing clothes that use a tightly woven fabric can provide you with the best protection against the UV rays. Meanwhile, if you’re planning to wear a T-shirt when you swim or as a cover-up, wear something with a lighter color to add more protection. Also, there are a couple of clothes with ultraviolet protection that you might want to give a try, too.

Get your sunglasses

It’s not only your skin that needs protection from the sun. Your eyes need TLC, too. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that wearing sunglasses shield your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Even more, it also reduces the risk of developing cataracts while protecting the skin around your eyes from exposure. That’s because sunglasses these days can block both UVB and UVA rays, making it ideal for outdoor use.

Wear sunscreen

Wear sunscreen all the time, no matter what the weather or season may be. It should have an SPF of 30 to ensure that you have the right protection from UVB and UVA rays. Remember to put it on 15 minutes before stepping outside. It should also be at least 1 ounce to get all your exposed skin protected. You can reapply it every 80 minutes or more, especially if you’re doing any water activities or sweating too much.

These are only a few things that you need to remember to keep yourself protected from the sun. Although it’s always great to spend your time outside on the beach, there’s no harm in keeping yourself shielded from the sun’s rays, too.
